Harry Fassl
Today is a sad, sad day. Jeff and I just found out that our pal Harry--he of the gruff voice and heart of gold and impeccable taste in wine and indisputable genius for creepy photography--passed away on Sunday. According to his sweetheart Diana, he fell ill last week with a flu-like illness that was making the rounds, but it set his health into a tailspin and, early Sunday morning, it claimed his life.
My heart is heavy for us and for all the folks who were fortunate enough to call him friend. My heart is breaking for Diana, who loved him and faced life together with him for at least the last quarter century.

Harry was a gem; a funny, talented guy that as far as I knew, everybody loved. My heart truly goes out to Diana. So, so sad.

I'm trying to think of something profound to say, but I'm at a complete loss. I see you've already read Wayne's blog and, yeah, it was a great post. I don't think anyone could ask for much more than to be remembered so well.
It's surreal for me, even now. Mostly from hearing from people I hadn't even remembered had met Harry years before I did (circa 1992). I worry for Diana but I also worry for Jeff. I'm going to post again later tonight some of the comments people made in emails, like Peggy Nadramia's, who published many of Harry's photo pieces in GRUE.
Found you by accident, following a comment all the way from Wayne's blog. We sure will miss Harry. Andrew is talking about a VonCon Reunion.

Thanks, everyone, for sharing your thoughts about Harry. Yes, Mark (and hi!), he was a unique soul. And Von--what a tribute that would be to Harry to get the gang together in his honor. Wayne and Beth and Lee and Erin--it hardly seems real. And yet, the obituary is up online...
Sigh.
